Course Description

Yin yoga encourages holding floor poses for long periods to enhance the Chi or energy distribution through the fascia, organs, and bones. Restoring the flow of Chi within us has a direct impact on our psychological states, encouraging increased ease of being, a foundation for authentic meditation to occur. After we have established a clear understanding of how and why to practice Yin yoga, we can begin to look more closely at the pranic and mind training aspect available to us while in the poses, and as a separate seated practice.

In this course, we will NOT focus on how and why to practice Yin Yoga (assuming you already know these things), INSTEAD we will explore the inner methods; various breath patterns and retentions, visualizations for the health of the organs, contemplations in the poses, as well as the foundation methods of Buddhist Mindfulness.

Each session will include a lecture, yin yoga session, seated meditation practices focusing on the Four Foundations of Mindfulness, as well as interactive discussion time. Included will be handouts and suggestions for reading.

Study and Reading

Acquiring an intellectual understanding of the rich diversity of Yoga and Buddhism inspires one’s dedication to the path of awakening; it also fosters a clear level of communication and discussion with others.

Students will be provided a reading list and are required to read the books assigned for this training before they arrive. Readings from these books are an integral part of the training so please order the materials upon registration of the course so you have ample time to read them before the training begins.

Outside reading prior to and during the course will be required to enrich one’s overall understanding.

A training manual will be handed out on the first day of class.

To be eligible to receive the certificate, you will also be asked to write a 1-2 page paper on the themes offered in this training upon completion of the course for assessment.
